Vintage 1930s Spanish Willow Fishing Creel and Bait Basket

Antique 30s Spanish fly fishing creel and bait basket

These antique baskets are charming examples of traditional Spanish country craftsmanship. The larger basket was worn while fishing and used to store freshly caught fish, while the smaller basket was used for carrying bait.

Both baskets were made in a simple and somewhat improvised manner, incorporating clever fixtures and everyday household materials. Their humble construction is part of what makes them so appealing, giving them a wonderfully rustic and authentic character. They would make charming decorative pieces in a rustic, country-style or outdoor-inspired interior.

After almost a century, both baskets remain in good vintage condition, with various signs of age and use. Over the years, they have developed a beautiful natural patina that only adds to their character and charm. Both baskets have been carefully cleaned and treated with antique wax to nourish and protect the surface, leaving them with a subtle, natural sheen.
