Vintage 1938 French Hunting Still Life Painting on Wood Panel

Antique early 1938 French still life oil painting

This charming antique painting depicts a traditional French still life, featuring a freshly caught rabbit arranged alongside a vase, fruit and autumn leaves on a rustic wooden table. The composition evokes the atmosphere of a traditional French country kitchen or hunting lodge, with its distinctly rural character.

The painting is executed in oil on a wooden panel and bears the artist’s signature in the lower left corner together with the year ’38.

With its traditional subject, muted tones and rustic appeal, this painting would make a wonderful decorative addition to a country kitchen, hunting lodge, cottage or other characterful interior. It would also sit beautifully within a collection of antique hunting and countryside-themed artwork.

After almost a century, the painting remains in worn antique condition, displaying various authentic signs of age. The paint surface has developed extensive craquelure over the decades, creating a naturally aged texture that adds depth and character to the artwork.
