Vintage 1941 Swiss Army Leather Saddle Bag
€250.00
Vintage 1941 WWII era Swiss army issued messenger bag
This rugged messenger bag was originally issued to the Swiss army around 1941 and designed for use as a pair of saddle bags by mounted soldiers. The two bags were connected by a chain and carried on either side of a horse; this is one of the pair. A matching brown leather handle was added at a later date, allowing the bag to be carried by hand. On the back, the bag is marked “L. HARTMANN – HILTERFINGEN, 41”, referring to its maker and the year of production. A matching brown leather handle was added at a later date, allowing the bag to be carried by hand.
A fine example of Swiss military craftsmanship, the bag features a rugged, timeless design and is made from thick, durable saddle leather, expertly stitched together to withstand years of use.
The spacious main compartment offers plenty of room for a laptop (up to 14 inches), documents and other everyday essentials, making it a practical and characterful accessory for daily use.
The bag remains in well-worn vintage condition, with signs of age and use throughout. The leather has faded beautifully over the decades, developing a rich, weathered appearance and a lovely patina that enhances its rugged character. Its sturdy construction and authentic military design make it a distinctive piece of functional vintage gear.
