Vintage 60s zoological study sketches

This unique set of three vintage zoological studies features multiple anatomical sketches of a rhinoceros and a hippopotamus. The loose and expressive sketching style gives the works a distinctive artistic character, combining scientific observation with a wonderfully raw and spontaneous quality. They were drawn in brown marker and chalk on paper. The works are unsigned.

The studies are presented in vintage wooden frames. A third rhinoceros sketch has been preserved behind the other artwork within the frame.

These unusual mid-century studies would make wonderful additions to a vintage-style interior, study, library, or cabinet of curiosities. Their combination of zoological subject matter, anatomical detail and expressive linework gives them a distinctive vintage character.

After approximately 60 years, the sketches remain in good vintage condition, but show various authentic signs of age and use. The wooden frames also display signs of age, including wear and surface marks consistent with their age and history.
