Type III
In the 1960s, back when the famous red tab was still spelled “LEVI’S” with the iconic “Big E”, Levi’s introduced their third-ever denim jacket design and fittingly named it the Type III. This two-pocket jacket would become known as the classic trucker jacket: one of the most popular jackets ever worn, a design everyone recognizes and a true style icon to this day.
Over the years, I have been lucky enough to come across a few original 1960s Type III jackets. One day, I was approached by a man who told me he had worked for years in the Levi’s archives in San Francisco, where thousands of the brand’s historic pieces are kept. He was interested in buying one of the jackets I offered. And so the jacket travelled all the way to San Francisco, back to the city where Levi’s was born, and now belongs to his personal collection.
