Antique WWI German Cast Iron Portrait Plaque of Paul von Hindenburg
€250.00
Antique 1910s German cast iron portrait plaque of Paul von Hindenburg
This distinctive cast iron plaque was made in Germany during the First World War and depicts Paul von Hindenburg (1847–1934), the renowned German field marshal and later President of the Weimar Republic. The portrait is cast in relief and hand-painted, capturing Hindenburg in an imposing manner, with his characteristic large moustache and stern expression.
The lower part of the plaque bears the inscription “Generalmarschall von Hindenburg”, referring to his military rank of Generalfeldmarschall, which he was awarded in 1914.
With its bold relief portrait and rustic appearance, this plaque would make a striking addition to an industrial or traditional interior, or an interesting piece for a collector of German militaria and First World War memorabilia.
After more than a century, the plaque remains in good antique condition, displaying an attractive aged patina that enhances its rugged character. The surface has been treated with antique wax to help protect the iron and give it a subtle sheen.
