Vintage 1979 Swiss Army issued mountaineer’s rucksack

This vintage mountain rucksack was made in Switzerland in 1979 and issued to the Swiss Army. Rugged and stylish, it is perfect for hiking or cycling in old-school style, or simply for everyday use.

These Swiss made rucksacks are famous for their design and durability. Their design finds its roots in the 1940s and was refined over the following decades into this robust model.

The outer layer is made of rubberized canvas, making the bag water-resistant and ideal for outdoor use. The bottom, shoulder straps and front straps are made of very strong, sturdy saddle leather. One of the leather straps is stamped with the maker’s name and place of manufacture: “G. Lehmann Sattler, Abtwil – 1979”, showing that it was made by saddler G. Lehmann in Abtwil, Switzerland, in 1979.

After nearly 50 years, the rucksack remains in good condition. It shows light signs of wear from years of military use, but has proven it can stand the test of time and will last for many more years. All leather parts have been cleaned and oiled.
