Antique WWI trench art crucifix, dated 1914

At the top there is a small brass plaque engraved with ‘1914’ & ‘INRI’: Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). The bottom is decorated with a skull and crossbones.
To cope with the relentless stress and monotony of trench warfare, soldiers often turned to creativity, transforming remnants of the battlefield into expressive handmade objects.
